The most streamlined approach to obtaining your real estate license in Maine and New Hampshire is the following...
1. Complete pre-licensing requirements for the state of New Hampshire (40 hours of education)

Applicants in for a Maine Real Estate license must...
1. Complete License Application
2. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
3. Be at least 18 at the time of application for the license
4. Complete the Sales Agent Course (offered on this page at a 25% discount) with a minimum final grade of 75%
5. Pass the sales agent licensing examination with a minimum final grade of 75% within one year of passing the Sales Agent course.
The licensing exam is made up of two sections.
1. National Exam (aka the general portion): This potion covers real estate laws and regulations on the Federal level. (80 questions & 2.5 hours)
2. Maine Specific: This portion of the exam covers real estate laws and regulations, and it pertains to the state of Maine. (40 questions & 1.5 hours)
To apply for your Maine Real Estate License, you must pass both portons of the exam with a 75% of higher.
Note, if you are already licensed in NH or VT, you are only required to take the Maine-Specific Exam.
Active Maine Agents are required to take 21 Clocked Hours of Continuing Education (aka CE) every two years. 3 of those hours must be from core courses that the Real Estate Commission mandates, while the others are open to a plethora of other Commission-approved courses.

Note, if you are licensed in VT, you must only take the New Hampshire-Specific Exam. Active Maine Sales agents will be required to take both portions of the exam and the New Hampshire Salesperson class hours.
